Due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic the team at Myaree Medical Centre advises that all patients who have any of the following symptoms:
– Sore throat
– Shortness of breath
– Runny or blocked nose
– Sudden loss of taste or smell;
Will need to book a telehealth (phone or video) consult. This can be done online, or by calling the surgery and explaining the situation to our staff. This is required even if government agencies such as Health Direct have advised you to see your GP. We can then arrange a face-to-face appointment if deemed necessary by the doctor.
Currently we are bulk-billing all telephone consults and will continue to do so until September. Telephone consults are available to all patients, due to this we are booking all prescription and referral renewals as phone consults. There are obviously situations where we will need to see you but we will endeavour to do as much as we can by telephone. Please note if the doctor determines that you need to be seen face-to-face that normal consult fees will apply.
New Video Consults
We are now able to offer video consults with Dr Dale Allen, Dr David Porritt, Dr Melissa Lee and Dr Brodie Thorpe. Video consults will only be bulk-billed for patients for whom at least one of the following apply:
– Pensioner or Health Care Card Holder
– At least 70 years old
– At least 50 years old and is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
– Is pregnant
– Is a parent of a child under 12 months old
– Is already under treatment for chronic health conditions or is immune compromised.
– Is required to self-isolate or self-quarantine in accordance with guidance issued by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee in relation to COVID-19
– Children under 12 years old.
If your booking is more complex than a simple script or referral renewal then it is preferable to book a video consult over a phone consult as our doctors are able to better assess you if they are able to see you. Please note that the patient, including children, must be present for the video call.
For all other patients fees will be the same as those charged in the practice and we are able to arrange medicare rebate payments, as long as patients have registered bank details with medicare.
Video Consult Guide
It is more important than ever to prioritise your health and get the prescriptions, screening and care you need from the GP who knows you.
Our clinic may look a bit different as we have had screens installed at the front desk and you will see staff wearing masks and other protective equipment, but the changes are designed to keep everyone safe from COVID-19. If you are concerned, ask our receptionist when you call about what to expect and the steps your GP is taking to keep you safe.
